just to clarify the purpose of the trend lines you have drawn in, are you suggesting the ideal time to short these stocks is when they violate the trend lines?

No, not necessarily, as each stock is different. I just draw them in to highlight areas of support and resistance, continuation points, or the shape of the chart etc, as it helps to draw attention to the patterns I'm seeing.

The book says the ideal time to short is the initial Stage 4A breakdown point, or the pullback to that area and subsequent rollover, or on a continuation point lower.

I highlighted that CYTK was attempting to move into a new Stage 2A on the weekly chart on Tuesday here: http://stageanalysis.net/forum/showthrea...80#pid4080 but news out today on a failed product development have seen it's shares have an extreme plunge back into Stage 4 territory. And so it should be removed from the watchlist now.

It's a very good example of why Biotech is a very risky area to trade in, as disappointing drug trials etc, can often lead to extreme share price moves that are much less common in other sectors of the market.

all good except for DAN is above its 150 day ma, and Stan says it is never a good idea to short a stock above its 150 day ma

I agree it's not time to short it yet, but I wanted to highlight it for the watchlist as it's developing a fairly large Stage 3 top pattern and had a bearish engulfing bar on the weekly chart. So it is one to watch in the coming weeks if it starts getting below it's 200 day MA again, as it could quickly break down into Stage 4, with the overall market beginning to weaken also.

*To refresh, the purpose of the stocks that I highlight in the watchlist thread, is not that they are necessarily in a good position to buy or sell when I highlight them, but that they are making the patterns that we look for and showing the relative strength or weakness compared to the market etc and other attributes that we look for. So on the short side I'll show stocks in either Stage 3 or 4, and on the long side I'll show stocks in Stages 1 or 2. - i.e. it's not a stock picking service, and can be used in many different ways.

One alternative example of how you can use it is that for example this week many of the stocks that were attempting to breakout into Stage 2 or make Stage 2 continuations failed to confirm their breakouts and closed back below their breakout levels at the end of the week. Some by a long way after a very bad day on Friday. Whereas, there were numerous Stage 3 and Stage 4 stocks that broke down and finished their weeks very poorly, and so this adds to the weight of evidence that the market is likely in Stage 3, even though the larger caps stocks indexes like the S&P 500 aren't showing it yet as a lot of money has rotated into defensive large cap stocks which has kept them up.

So, the watchlists are just a starting point. How you use the research is up to you.

RE: Watchlist - Investor method

The US stocks watchlist in the Elite Board had mainly breakdowns this week, but there were a few early Stage 2A breakouts and late Stage 1B stocks that came up still - ISS, HGT, AVIV, GOL VDSI
